Internship in additive manufacturing

Recent advances in additive manufacturing (AM) have enabled the production of mechanical components featuring non-conventional shapes, that were very difficult to produce or even not possible to produce with traditional manufacturing. However, it is rather not possible to produce with AM techniques a component that has initially been designed for being produced with subtractive manufacturing (SM) techniques. If doing so, one faces problems related to residual stresses, heat evacuation, angle limitation or to the necessity to place support that could limit the component functionality. Before one even produces a component with AM techniques, it is absolutely necessary to think over the design of such a component.

Field of study 1 : Thermal for Additive manufacturing ( Master)
At first, the student will study the impact of heat on part deformation. He will analyze the impact of slicing, hatching, support definition, density on platform and laser parameters on heat.
Secondly, on the basis of his investigations and after having acquired the fundamentals of AM techniques, he will provide optimal parameters.

Field of study 2 : Part and support optimization for Additive manufacturing
At first, the student will study the impact of geometries on part deformation, building time and quality issues.
Secondly, on the basis of his investigations and after having acquired the fundamentals of AM techniques, he will provide optimal parameters.

Field of study 3 : Part validation and Control for Additive manufacturing
The student will analyze the state of the art in control and provide us a choice matrix to define more relevant technology (RX, Tomography, Foucault…..) per control to check and map default as cracks, porosity, shrinkage….
The student will study the impact of control on part cost.

Field of study 4 : Support on Design activities for Additive manufacturing
The student will support the team on design activities from concept phase to CAD design.
Secondly, the student will acquire the fundamentals of AM techniques, he will support the team on process handling.
